I was only able to go once but it was a great experience. The organization and commitment of the volunteers was so evident and I loved being a part of it. I plan to be more involved in the months ahead. – Jan (SPIRIT Family – Cupcakes For Champs)

My family has been a part of SPIRIT since the summer of 2015. The SPIRIT Organization has been instrumental in sowing positive seeds into my grandsons and family.  Mr. Percy, the president of SPIRIT continues to mentor to my grandsons; as well as, teach them leadership skills through the many different programs offered through SPIRIT. My grandsons and I enjoy the many different opportunities available to us through SPIRIT that enables us to volunteer  and participate in different activities in the surrounding community.

My daughter and I participated in the Mom’s Makeover Night – which offered single moms a makeover. The whole night was about celebrating single mom’s. They offered facials, new hair styles and several outfits from Dillards.  We had a great time but it was amazing to see how the women reacted to being pampered.  SPIRIT continues to reach out to single parents and offer many resources to assist them and their household (i.e, financial classes, parental support, ministry opportunities, apprenticeship training, etc.).  I’m so happy to be a part of SPIRIT.

I have been a missionary for a few years now, mainly focusing on children and disenfranchised on a global level. God had been impressing homelessness as an expansion of my personal ministry but I did not know where or how to actually step. Frankly, my flesh was timid about this new challenge. Fast forward the day before my birthday, I visited with this ministry as a part of street church in the Montrose community. I was humbled by what I saw but more humbled when the homeless sang happy birthday to two of us missionaries.

I can hear the words now to an old hymnal “I was blind but now I see”.  In the preceding 12 months I had move 4 times. With each move, I came closer to the face of God, more engaged in the Great Commission and closer to my brothers and sisters on the street. Years and years of materialism were painstakingly peeled away with each move, helping me to really pour out now, with the purest love of Christ, I am having a difficult time explaining. I know can remember their faces and their names. I have seen several of them in other areas of the city. They are grateful when I remember them. Somehow I’m believing this one more way God will restore their faith in him, their dignity and identity in Christ….

Now I’m volunteering with 5 other projects aimed ministering with widows, the underserved. When I went to the project, I thought I was going to help the “Champions”… It turns out the “Champions” have helped me. – Andrea D. Volunteer – Cupcake For Champs

This time last year, I was depressed, heartbroken, missing my mom, grieving, and so far from happiness and joy. What a difference a year makes. As a single mom, I have endured a lot and overcome so many obstacles because of the help of so many great people. Today, I was given a gift and I didn’t know how to receive it at first, but I am eternally grateful. Percy Lee Kennedy Jr. and his organization voicesofthefatherless.com, Dillards, Greenspoint Mall, and a host of others pampered me and other single moms. God is listening. I’m sooooooo thankful. Tomorrow is makeover day! I’m excited! – Stephanie Clarke-Brooks

Thank you so much for the opportunity. It really allowed me to see God in a new way. The boys had a blast it felt good to see them helping others in this transition to greatness. It was a very liberating experience in this trying time. You truly we’re on assignment from God, an I thank you for your obedience to the Kingdom. The boys are excited about the mentor program as well as myself. Once again Thank You!!! – Single mother 3 boys

My three boys and I have been a part of S.P.I.R.I.T. for about a year now and we have been truly blessed. Our experience with this organization and with Mr. Kennedy has been a rewarding one. My children have flourished and have been able to experience new things. My boys have really fallen in love with and enjoy golf now mainly because of S.P.I.R.I.T. Being able to participate in the outreaches and events, have showed my children how to start being servants for God outside of church. Being a single parent it is challenging to find events or other single parent families who understand what you are going through, so being part of S.P.I.R.I.T. has helped in a big way. We look forward to participating and joining more upcoming events. – Raquel T.

I first volunteered at Cupcakes for Champs around November of 2015 with my two daughters, Alyssa (10) and Peyton (6). Earlier in the year, we were having issues with Alyssa being appreciative for everything that she had. When it was time to pass the cupcakes around, Alyssa spotted this one man sitting away from everyone else. He just smiled at her and she knew she wanted THAT man to have her first cupcake. Alyssa presented him with a cupcake and after he thanked her, she said he smiled a huge smile at her. Later that night as we were driving home, she told me that the man had warmed her whole heart with his smile and appreciation of the cupcake. It helped for her to see that we should all appreciate our blessings – even if it is just a simple cupcake from a child. – Angel Webb – Business Performance Advisor

I’ve volunteered for SPIRIT Cupcakes For Champs 5 times this year.   The experience has been  absolutely amazing – from the volunteers to the leadership it’s a very positive experience.  Cupcakes for Champs offers me and other volunteers a great opportunity to serve and pour into the lives of Houstonian’s that are less fortunate.  The dynamic leadership of Percy Kennedy is refreshing to witness.  Percy’s level of humility and commitment is extremely encouraging!!  I look forward to providing continued support to SPIRIT and it’s endeavors in the foreseeable future. – Angela Williams

Hi, my name is Avisus Parker and as one of the participants of the SPIRIT Makeovers for Moms Event, I would like to say a very special thank you to all of the sponsors.  I appreciate each one of you that played a part in making this happen.  I know it meant so much to me, as a single mother to be able to go into Dillards and look for dresses for myself! So thank you Dillards for allowing me to focus on me, when I mostly shop for my child.  To Diamond Nails, thank you for pampering me and making my hands and nails look as if I don’t work! I would like to thank Nestle Toll House for the wonderful food they provided and Reach Across America for all the the things they donated!! Everything was so thoughtful and appreciated.  Last but certainly not least thank you SPIRIT for the time, effort, thought, prayer, and care that was taken to make this possible.  I thank God for you and continue to pray for this ministry to grow and flourish into all that God intends!  For all the women whose lives you brought such joy to, including mine, I pray God blesses you all one hundred fold in return.  Thank you!

Sincerely,

Avisus Parker

Hello Percy Kennedy,

I just wanted to let you know that i appreciated everything that you have done, for all of us mother’s.I could not wait to tell everyone i work with how much fun i had, and how happy I’am to have met you,you are doing such a wonderful job with this organization keep it up.But truly from the bottom of my heart thank you and also let the ladies know i thank them for coming out and helping us feel special…… – Vivian Coleman

I’ll must  start this letting by saying THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!  I was blessed to be apart of the Mother’s Makeover event on Monday December 7th at Top Golf.  I wasn’t able to partake in the portion on Sunday, but the kindness, patience, and love that was demonstrated to me on Monday evening from the time I arrived until the time I left was priceless.  I’ve been a single mom for 8 years as a result of divorce and have had many trails along the way.  God in his faithfulness has always opened doors for me that have allowed for our needs to be meet with abundance from a financial stand point and for that I’m so thankful.  The bigger challenge for me during this season of single parenting has been having times of feeling alone and separate.   I come from a single parent home and was raised to give and help were I can, therefore I tend to make sure that everyone else is taken care of first.  When I received the invite for this event my immediate thought was that someone else needed it more than me.  Even when I received the call to schedule the Sunday portion I quickly explained that I was out of town and wouldn’t be able to attend and that it should be given to another mom and expressed how I appreciated being considered.  When the wonderful organizer expressed that I should still attend on Monday, I almost felt guilty that I would be given a space if there was a possibility of someone else with a greater need missing out.  Well, I thankfully said thank and I’ll be there.  Boy am I glad that I did. You see I’ve asked God to place my children and I somewhere that would allow us to help others, but what I didn’t know is that God would also allow others to give to me in the process.  What I received at the Makeover did not have a price tag, but it was more valuable than anything that I could have purchased at a store.  What I needed was something that only God knew about and I was given it on Monday.   I received true given from the heart.  On Monday as I observed the smiles and laughs there were moments that I had to hold back my tears, because my hear was overwhelmed as I sat heard God gently whisper, “I love you” to my heart through each of you.   I will close this letter as I start with a heart that has been overwhelmed by kindness, selflessness, encouragement, patience, and joy for this I say THANK YOU! May God overwhelm each of you with his very best.  I appreciate you all. – Chelsea

It was a fantastic experience for my girls, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to take them with me.  They want to come back whenever theirs and my schedule permits.  For myself, it was a very humbling experience and a reminder to look outside of oneself.  Seeing you and your team’s dedication to bring support and joy through something as simple as bringing cupcakes every 4th Wednesday of the month, makes me realize that whatever we can do, we should do now.  Simple and consistent acts of service brings us all together. – Mother of 2 daughters

I’ve heard that you wanted me to write my experiences about feeding the homeless.  I felt really sad seeing so many people with little food and having a hard life.  I felt very happy to help serve them food.  I really liked the singing, acting, and the stories about God and Jesus.  Although I’m Buddhist, I believe God loves everyone.  Thank you, Mr. Kennedy, for letting me help. – Linh 10 yrs old

I’m 9.  I’m sorry I was grumpy.  My back was hurting because I slept wrongly in the car.  I liked it because I always wanted to help poor people more. I usually give them clothes.  I was really excited to give them food to bring home.  I can’t wait for next time.  I also liked the acting and singing.  Thank you Mr. Kennedy. – Vi
